President of the European Commission confirmed for the Opening session at OPEN DAYS

José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, will attend the Opening session of OPEN DAYS and make a keynote speech, alongside Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for Regional Policy, and Luis Valcarcel Siso, President of the Committee of the Regions. The President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, will be at the Plenary session in Strasbourg, but will send a video message.

York's commitment to create a city that is 'dementia-friendly'

York has a large and growing older population: by 2020, the number of residents over 85 will increase by 60%. This means that those who enter residential care will be older, frailer and more likely to experience dementia.As part of our ambition to create a fair and equal city for all our residents, we are working to make York a "dementia-friendly" city. We aim to meet the changing needs of an ageing population, enabling elderly residents to live in their own homes and communities for longer.I took over health housing and adult social services after the May 2011 elections in York.

The Interreg IVC projects INNOVAge – CASA – DAA will be present at the OPEN DAYS 2013 with a dedicated workshop on the innovative policies and solutions for active ageing

Within the framework of the Thematic Programme Capitalisation initiative of the Interregional Cooperation Programme, the projects INNOVAge – CASA – DAA that relate to the Demographic change thematic area, put together their efforts in organizing a jointly initiative during the Open Days 2013: a workshop on “Innovative policies and solutions for active ageing” that will take place at VLEVA in Brussels on October 8th.

During the webinar Remy van der Vlies and Esther Felix (TNO, Dutch Center for Health Assets) presented the results of a study after the implementation of telecare technology in three regions in the Netherlands. Special attention was paid to the System Innovation Framework, which was used to map drivers and barriers regarding the implementation of telecare technology.
